Chest of Drawers
This chest is one piece of a complete bedroom set. The client had an idea, or rather a concept for a design, wherein the furniture (two chests, two night stands and the headboard of a bed) would appear to be constructed of stackable boxes and the small shadow lines between the boxes would carry around the room at the same height on each piece.
The client communicated this idea to me verbally and provided a rough sketch with dimensions. From that I came up with a price and construction plan I felt would work well for this project. The internal carcass is built from high grade stable plywood. The outer shell and drawer fronts are built from solid sapple. The top is a slab of onyx, an off-white, translucent stone. The nightstands were outfitted with low wattage light under the stone. When switched on, the tops glow with enough light to read by.
